St. Pattys decor

I love to decorate for holidays even when I have little or no decor I usually can come up with something, but this year my cute sister made this for me and I just love it. It is currently my only St. Patricks Day decor.

She used wood letters from a craft store that were already white and modge podged paper on each one, then used a distressing ink pad to distress the edges of each.

She used twin to hot glue each letter to the one below. Then took strips of fabric and tied to the twine. So simple and so cute. She did a great job didn't she.

how to frame an old mirror

I got a mirror like 2 years ago from my sister and brother-in-law. It was originally hooked to a large dresser, with a 2 inch rounded frame in some oakish color of wood. I took out the mirror and it sat in my basemtent till last week my kids have used it as a car slide so it got a little scratched up. Oh well it adds to the old charm of it now.
I had some 1x6's in my shop and cut them to fit on top of the mirror. So the mirror is large and I covered up about 5 1/2 inches on each side I could have used smaller wood but I wanted this thing "CHUNKY". This thing is heavy!!
I cut the boards to fit just like you would for a frame.
Then I painted my handy Vinegar steel wool mixture to the wood to age it.

After dry I painted on with a roller Oatbran Chalk paint.
I do like chalk paint and I am too cheep to buy it from Annie Slaon so i made some I got the recipe from Martha Stewart.

CHALK PAINT ingredients:
1 to 2 tlbs. Plaster of Paris or Non Sanded grout
mix with 2 tlbs water
1-2 cups of paint.
Mix together well store in tightly covered container.

The paint does get a little chunky after sitting but I just add a little water and stir and it de-chunks..
Chalk paint is really easy to distress it comes off like chalky powder...imagine that!!
After painting my frame i use my handy hot glue gun to glue t right to the mirror, man this frame will never come off it is one there GOOD!! Lastly I used my handy 5 in 1 tool to scrape the paint off /distress it. I love how it turned out here it is on my table downstairs..

Oh, I made the ladder out os 2x2's super easy..

big boy bedroom

I just finished putting up my little boys new "big boy bed" He thinks he is big stuff and he has adjusted so well I can believe it, except a few times he has gone into the other boys room in the middle of the night and flipped on thier light and started talking to them like it was morning well not a 3 AM!! My boys were yelling "Mom, Jake's in our room!! Get him out!! :)

Mu cute mom made this quilt for him and it turned out so darling. I picked out the fabric and she did the pattern and added "J A K E" to some of the squares..

I made these pillows they don't stay on the bed very often so I put the old bench I refinished in his room and they stay there.

I got the headboard for free it was a orangey/reddish stain color which had to go. I spray painted it dark brown and did some faux wood graining to it and then distressed in a few places. Turned out pretty good I really want a chunkier headboard but this will do for now.

My little guy loves his new big boy bed. Now only if we would start potty training!!

small country table add on

I wasn't going to post this, wasn't sure if it was post worthy but I am glad I did sometimes the small things make me happy :) It will be going out on my front porch when it's a little more springy outside.. Pleeeeeeeeeeease soon! I am so done with the cold..

small closet addition

Okay yesterday morning I was doing laundry (which I hate btw) so I gave myself an excuse to do something else.. how about a little closet redo..See the shelf and rod on the right well it needed to go up even with the other side and make room for my new skirt section.. This was all last minute, really I decided what to do in about 2 minutes....then out to the garage to get my tools.

I used my handy 5 in 1 tool to hammer the mdf supports off the wall it was NOT pretty as you can see someone went agro with the nail gun.. I had some serious patching up to do.. I sat back and thought oh crap!!.. I have to have this done by the time my husband gets home.. He worries when he's not home and I am alone with power tools, hammers that kind of thing.. ha ha ha.. Sometimes I get these ideas!! ok lets move on.

Just look at the mess and this is after a little picking up.. I busted out my sander and putty and filled the holes and sanded it odwn then waited a half hour and did it again.. To patch up all the holes and cracks ;)

Painting time.. Doesn't it look better. You'd never know it was a disaster about an hour before..Below you can see where I added 4 inch MDF to hand the closet rod on. Which was $4.37 at my local ACE.

My new skirt area. I've got lots of skirts I noticed..Over thirty sheesh!

I also cleaned out my shoe cubbys for my boots and put pool noodles in them to help keep them nice. Hung my belts and jewelry..

Isn't it clean and organized, hopefully I can keep it that way..

a little boys bathroom redo

I got an itch to change up my boys bathroom. On pinterest i fround this great site that allows you to print off their art fro free or you can purchace prints.

I go for the free stuff it's good enough for me. My boys love "critters" frogs bugs worms, any thing that flys, creeps or slithers. So what I came across theses insects I just had to have them.

The frames are from Michaels for 4.50 each I spray painted them dark grey and added burlap for the inside mat, added the printables and free wall art..

Also on pinterest I saw the awesome idea of having two shower curtains. loved it! So I made panels of Muslin- (I wanted a light wieght sheerish fabric so the light would still come in. I had the idea of doing large grey stripes on the panels but still havent decided on that. what do you think??

Here are the Ballard shelfs I made last year I love the decorating space they add to this small bathroom. I love the metal drogon fly..

This is the drogon fly print out in a dolloar store frmae spray painted camoflauge brown.

I got these tin signs last year a a thrift store for $1 They were orange and pink?? Those two colors never should go together..( ok well maybe not never but not very often..) So I painted some checks on them in cream and gray and heavly distressed, made a twig star and hung on this small wall.

Here is another shot of the pictures.. the kids love looking at them while in the tub and brushing their teeth. They have turned out to be a great discussion starter for my kids.

How to refinnish a desk

I was driving to my parents last week and saw a "free" sign. Free! Really what is it?? So I quickly drove over to the parking lot..It was a Wallpaper Wharhouse that was closing down and was getting rid of anything not nailed to the floor or wall. I got some awesome stuff for FREE!! That really is the best kind of stuff right?? I got this cute little desk. It is in really good shape (as you can see) The sweet guy Nick helped me load all my treasures.. I am sure he thought I was nuts..because I was so excited. I got a desk and four nice white shelving units to be used in another project and my dad got a desk and four more shelving units.

We scored big time.. I offered to give the guy something for his kindness a drink... a big mac.. something. Nope he was glad to get rid of the stuff. I was even tempted to buy a paint mixer.. yes a paint mixer I could make any color of paint I wanted, but It didn't fit in my truck.. darn it!

So here is the before, not bad..

and the after:

I sanded down the top with my handy sander, pictured below.

The into the house it went to be painted.. It was really cold outside. brrrrrrrr shiver! shiver!
Here is the base primed first with GRIPPER sealer/primer then regular paint color Valspar Oatbran.

Then once the paint was dry I flipped it over and applied my Gel Stain-Dark Walnut to the top using a foam brush that I could just chuck after.

The drawer was just a sheet of wood it had not back or sides for some reason. I think it was for a key board. I wanted a drawer so that things would not fall out of it. I added sides, back and a larger front and some hardware to the drawer

It's all finished..

my free desk all done :)

My husband liked the desk so much he took it to use.. he he he.

how to make old wood decor

I had some bead board layin' around so I just had to make something out of it. I can't throw any good wood away.

I cut the sheet into 12inch x 12inch squares. pictured below. Bead side will be the back.

I then stained them with Minwax Gel Stain. Let cry then took a stencil and a roller and some cream paint and used it to make different patterns on the three pieces. I got a little paint ouside the pattern but who cares.

Super easy. let it dry. It looked too new and perfect so I sanded it down a bit to make it look older.

As you can see the top and left one have not been sanded but the bottom right has..mmmmmm oldness. I had to be careful or the sander would have taken the paint right off.

I measured where to drill my holes and used twine to hang them. Sorry I couldn't get a straight on shot I out them in my hall way and its too narrow to get a really good picture.

how to stencil fabric drapes

I have seen lots of ladies stenciling or painting their fabric drapes and just had to try it for my self. In my master bath I put up some Muslin fabric drapes, they are cream in color but nothing special.
Until now....

What you will need:

Stencil-I used a stencil I had purchased from Joanns its about 12 inches tall and wide.
Small foam roller- for smooth surfaces like mouldings and cabinets.
Paint- Oatbran from Lowes/Vlaspar
Fabric drapes- washed and ironed

I layed the fabric down on my island in my kitchen and started at the top left corner. I used the edges of the stencil to place my pattern. it is not perfectly spaced but its good enough for me. This picture show the actual color of the drapes and the paint I used for the pattern.

I dipped my roller in paint then onto a paper towel to get any clumps or excess paint off. I wanted the stencil to be a little spotty to make it look vintage.

Sorry for the bad lighting this room is either dark or really bright..

Here is a close up of the drapes.. I need to make these drapes longer so they go all the way down to the top of the tub..

new home accessories

Any time i can bring the outdoors in i love to do it. I was at Tai Pan trading home decor store and saw these darling pots with the darling birdies on them and had to have them they were $3.97 each. I also got these potted greenery for $5.97 I love how they brighten up my kitchen..

I got this thing not sure what to call it a long timje ago probably 6 years ago and I havent used it much it was black. I used Heirloom White to spray paint it and sandpaper to distress it. added some greenery and hung it up in my hall i love how it turned out..

I love to recycle things and so i've been saving all my tin cans. they worked perfectly for this project. you can use them for anything, you can also spray paint them, use to organize markers, pens, rulers, whatever.
What you'll need:
Tin cans-grocery store (soup cans)
Burlap-joanns
greenery on sale 50% off they were $1.50 each plant -Joanns
Twine-the $ store
hot glue gun

Wrap the burlaparound the can add bead of glue down the end of the burlap and press down to attach to the can i tied some twine around my cans to add detail.

Put the cans in the holder added the greenery and done!

I just want to show you that i just added some boards to my DIY old window i like it so much better with 6 panes.

sofa table add on..

I made this table last fall, I love it but really wanted to add a bottom shelf like I did for my entry table
So I did here is the before

I used a 2x4 in the front and a 2x2 in the back to hold up the shelf planks which are 2x6. cut them the same depth of the table and screwed them in.

Then on went the Minwax Gel Stain

That's it it was really simple, and the best part is that m son who is four said to me when it was all done "so were not suppoed to crawl under there anymore right?"and I said "no mommy doesn't want you crawling under the table any more, sorry" son "cus it's for baskets and decorations under there not kids right? how cute is he.. I just love the things he comes up with.

How to make an old door

I love doors, ya know the style of 5 panel doors um the ones with 5-panels.... hopefully you know what I am talking about.. Annnnnnnnnyywaaaaaay.

I had some beadboard (3 1/2 feet long and 2 1/2 feet tall) and some 1x3 inch boards kickin' around so I put them to use. I used screws to attach the boards to the beadboard-(not the beaded side)

I used that awesome old wood teqnique again I wanted to show you while it was changing from new to old..see.

My mixture is getting old so it turned the wood kind of a pink color. But that doesn't matter when I paint it you won't be able to tell.

I painter the whole thing Valspars-Raffia and did three coats. Then I used this bad boy to chip the heck out of it, distress-if you will. The handy 5-in-1 tool..

I wanted this to look really old and worn so I scraped and scraped and as you can see some areas came off more than others. I thought about covering that large spot but decided I liked it..

I am probably putting this down stairs but for now here it is in my family room. Or I could flip it long ways and get some great hooks and hang three pictures on it..

Here is a close up so you can see the oldness of the door. I want to find an antique door knob to put on it, wouldn't that be cute??

I recently saw this door on Down to Earth Style and fell in love with it, I want this for my pantry door. Holly took a super old door striped it to fit her spot and installed it. WAAAAAAY cute!

chicken wire frame how to...

This is the easiest thing ever. Grab some 2x4's or 2x2's, make a square or rectangle and nail or glue them together. (above)

Then when all fitted together add the special vinegar and steel wool mixture to age your wood. Let dry then paint you frame. (below)

I wanted to show you what brown glase does to your frame when added. In the picture below the top and right side have the glaze on them, it ages you wood and adds a brown coloring to your wood and painted ares it seeps into the cracks and makes it nice and old looking.

Add your chicken wire with a small upolstry stapler I got mine at Joanns for $10 bucks. Be sure to pull you chicken wire tight while attaching to wood.

You can hang jewlery or pictures.

simple shelf to better shelf

I've wanted a long shelf with "drawers" on it from quite a while but I just couldn't find one. So I went on a hunt for a shelf I could "mess with" I got this shelf last week at Michaels for $8 using a 40% off coupon. It is cute but doesn't have very much personality.

So after running to Lowes and grabbing $6 in wood I was able to whip up this bad boy! I Took the two boards and made a L shape and added three most boards cut to about 10 inches each and nailed them onto the front for the drawers.

Added the knobs that I got for free, and painted it Valspar Foxtrot, a lovely creamy white color.
Here it is all hung up and layered with decor.

The shelf is 4 feet long and about 6 inches wide so I can put lots of stuff on it. I love stars, can you tell?? The brown shutters are just wood slats for fences they are 98 cents each for 3 footers just cut assemble and stain ta da hand made shutters..

I finally Found some hardware that I liked to go with my table, aren't they loverly? If you don't know Hobby Lobby has all their harware 50% off on the last week of the month.. 50% off people that is a good deal! I got each one of these for $2 each.

So that is how you can take a simple shelf and make it better.

Valentines

I started to decorate for Valentines. I know, I know it's not even february. But I have to keep doing some sort of project or I will go crazy.

I love old signs, so I made a few. I used a tutorial from Funky junk interiors on how to make old signs. Here is the link. check out her blog it is awesome!

All I did was take a board paint it black and then paint it red and then sand then painted it black again, you want different layers and colors of paint so they will show thru when you sand.

I got a new hand sander for christmas and WOW this baby works so good it take only minutes to get down to the wood. (as you can see below, it almost worked too good.)

I just used black, sage green and cream for this "Gather" sign.

After that I painted on two coats of cream paint and let it dry then sanded it just to make it old and worn looking, then I used letter from my computer to trace around the letters to the board with a pencil. (The wood was soft and it made an indent of the letters)

After the letters dried I used masking tape around the sides and made a little border. Lightly sand to make the letters worn. Thats it! So go get your sign making self on! it is super easy.

Old window tutorial

I have wanted some old windows for ever!! I was sick of looking on KSL.com so I made some. I am so excited because I used this awesome technique to age your new wood to look old.

Pour one to two cups white vinegar in a jar and put steel wool in it and close the lid. Let is sit for a day or two and then with a brush or foam bruch paint onto your naked wood (nothing can be on the wood like a varnish or glue ect.) it will make your wood look like it's been laying out in the elements for years..

Below are the two window frames I made the top one has "the mixture" on it. The bottom one does not, the longer it sat there the older it got, imagine that! The wood kinda has a vinegar smell to it..(fyi)

After letting them dry a few hours I painted a few coats of Valspar white paint. Then I used this bad boy to chip and scrape off the paint to make it look really old and worn. This is the greatest tool under ten dollars it is called the 5 in one painters tool.

other than the spray paint handle, which practically saves my life every time I use spray paint.

OLD WINDOW

What youll need:

* 2x2 wood boards for the outside frame

* 1x 1/2 boards for the panes

* foam roller or brushes( I used roller to get a thick layer of paint)

* Paint

if you want the chicken wire and a small tack gun

Cut to any size you want and lay them out on the floor use a nail gun or screws to hook together I used both.

wood glue- I used this kind.

add the vinegar steel wool mixture and then the paint. use the 5 in 1 tool to scrape and chip your window, the more chipping the older the window will look.

I think I might add another few boards accross the middle of this one and made six panes and then maybe some glass.

Here is a close up of the paint chipped away. I also spray painted the chicken wire to make it show up more.

You can router the inside so you can put glass in it but that is one tool I have not learned how to use..yet!

I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas with your loved ones. Our Christmas was so fun, I just love the ages my kids are at. Christmas is SO magical for them and they were so cute on Christmas morning. I want my priority to be spending time with my family this week and I hope yours is the same. You can down load ther botanical art and print it off to hang in your home. I have been looking for some just like this for ever. and it's FREE!!!!
Here are a few of mine I put up over my bed.

I got these frames last week at Michaels for $4 each. They are very simple.

I loved them above my bed so I put some more in my master Bathroom. I used my dollar store re do frames to put them in. They are quite a bit more detailed( too much going on) I think I like the more simple frame. But until I get to Michaels this is how they'll stay.

Not too bad for FREE! and the flowers make me think of spring! I know it's not even Christmas yet but a girl can dream right?

Twin Bed Makeover-sold!

-Here is a twin bed I bought about 6 months ago. I finally got around to painting it sage green.

See here it is Sage green. It was cute but not what I was hoping for, so I painted it cream..
Ahhhh so much better! The creamy white color is just so much better for a little girls bed. I even had this cute bedding to go on it. Too bad I have all boys. Oh well I will just have to sell it. Darn it I love how it turned out.

I lightly distressed it, adding so much to the detail.

I love this swag I saw on pinterest but I couldn't find any large bells so I used pinecones and round bells instead. Isn't the word SWAG wierd? Who made that one up? Any how the word is strange but the actual thing is cute!

NOEL sign

I made this NOEL sign out of 1x6's cut them to about 6 1/2 inches long stained them and added cream letters with a stencil made from the cricut. then I used a hammer and some screws to bang up the wood.

I really think this will be my last christmas project.. oh wait I have one more. But then that's it. I swear.

Kids crafts

Tree hand print pictures. I saw something similar on pinterest but they did theirs on plates.

My boys loved doing these why because they got to get their hand all covered with green paint,such a boy thing to love to do.

I found this air dry clay ot Joanns it was $5.99 for this bucket but I used a 50% off coupon, so it was super cheep. I have made a ton of things with this stuff. Here are a few things:

This clay take about 24 hours to dry hard but my house gets really warm so it only takes ablout 12 hrs. The thicker you make them the stronger they will be (and the longer the drying time will be)

I love candy canes they totally say Christmas to me. I wanted some that you counldn't eat so I made some with clay they were super easy. Just roll out your clay in long stips cut in half and twist them together and roll on the counter so they stick together then form into a cane. Let dry over night and paint stripes red. SO EASY!

I used a straw to poke a hole for the twine to hang them with.

I purchased these stamp letters at Joanne for $9.99 using a 50% off coupon and they work great to make your own saying on your tags.

My kids wanted to make their own animals tags using their plastic toys to push into the clay as a mold. They turned out pretty cute. They will be painting them but we haven't got to it yet.

Christmas Banners

I loved my halloween banner so much I had to make a Christmas one.. okay well two.
The first one is made of burlap and the second is made from Painters Drop Cloth.

On the burlap one I lightly brushed on some white paint and then I used the Cricut to cut some letters and used them as a stencil. I didn't fill in the whole stencil because I wanted the letters to look worn. Added some white bells on the send and done. simple!
I usually deck out my entry but I just didn't have the time this year. So I went all naturalish.

On this one I used a chunkier font and added glitter to the letters right after I painted them on.

So go with you bad self and make you a Holiday banner!

Christmas stockings and Nativity...

I wanted to make some stocking to put in my basement that matched the style of my tree and my red ones just didn't fit the bill. I made these three out of painters drop clothe, you can buy it at Lowes or Home Depot it's really inexpensive. I made my own pattern and sewed them up. Added some burlap and stained wood letters-for my three sons names. wrapped twine around the letters and added some buttons and greenery. easy peasy!

I have never had a place to put my Nativity and now I do. I didn't have a stable to put it in so I made a crate and stained it. TaDa!! a stable!

More Christmas

Okay here is my traditional Christmas decor that is in my upsatirs. sorry for the picture overload.
directly below is what is over my mantle (We used to have a tv there but I really wanted to get rid of it and have another place to decorate and so it's gone corner fireplaces take up so much room if I had the choice i would not have done it but i did so until I come up with a solution this is how it will stay). I also wanted to focus more on the reason for Christmas so I put one of my favorite pictures of the Savior.

Here is my railing..

My entry table. I love my grapevine trees I got a few months ago they light up the entry so much with the christmas lights on them.

and last the shelf in my kitchen I love the wood snowflakes I got them at Joanns for $1.

I had painted this dresser black forever ago and wanted to lighten it up for my sons room. I went to Sherwin Williams and picked out this grey color it's called Stamped Concrete. I left the top black and just added some different browns to it to make it look like wood. It really is wood but I don't have time to sand it down and stain it-(maybe next spring) because I do prefer the real staine wood look. But for now this works.
I couldn't find any hardware right away that fit the holes so I went to our local ACE hardware and the owner gave these wood knobs to me for free!! I love free! I painted them the same as the top.
Here is the before.. not bad just really dark.

Natural Christmas!

I wanted to do two totally different trees this year. This is in my basement right now but started out up stairs. Until my son freaked because there was no red on the tree, even my husband asked "Is that the tree your keeping up here?" they weren't being rude. they were missing the christmas red!! I had no idea my boys loved my other tree so much. So down stairs this one went and up came my red tree that I'll be showing a bit later.

I got the awesome large burlap garland at Joanns it is realuarly $8.99 for a lot of it probably 10-15 feet but I used a 40% off coupon for it. The main colors are green, cream, white gold and the yellow/greenish pears that are oh so sparkly!!

I wanted to make some fantastic tree skirt all rufflishis but haven't had time so i just cut a 4 foot strip of burlap and pulled one of the thread to gather the fabric and tied it together- really technical I know!

I didn't hang my shutters outside this year but I did inside on my basement windows and then hung these little wreaths for winter.

I got some cream sparkle tulle for the fabric you see here they are about 10-12 inch strips thick and about 10 feet long you just weave them through your tree. easy peasy!

If you have ever been to Tai Pan Trading they use these large clumps of ribbon greenery and sparkling things tie them together and stick them in the tree. This is how I do my large clumps of ribbon and stuff.

I am excited to so you more christmas stuff more is on it's way!

Table re-do

Hello everyone good day to you all. Is it freezing at your house because it is at mine. I am never quite ready for winter, I LOVE snow but HATE the cold!! So I just might cozy up on my couch with some hot cocoa and prop my feet up on my newe little table..
I was so excited when I came across this little honey at a thrift store the other day. I just had to have her. Look at those chunky legs-love it!! All I did was a new paint job and distress her a bit. She is feeling much better in her new home in my family room.

Never mind the christmas stuff in the back ground- and the little boy with the blurry face...(I should have cropped that out, but it is funny.)

PB Poinsettia Pillow Knock off

Pottry Barn has this cute poinsettia pillow for only $29! But you can make it for WAY cheaper than that, I bought 3 sheets of cream felt and cut out my own petal patterns. I had a pillow and just made a burlap pillow case for it. The whole thing cost me under $5.

I layed the petals out to make sure they it on the pillow, then I sewed around the whole petal and down the middle to add depth. Then sewed them together and added the bells(bought them at joanns for .99 cents for a small bag of 15) The bells were bright silver but I wanted a toned down rustic brown so I spray painted them)

This is how my pillow turned out.

Pottery Barns is not sewn around the petals but I thought it added detail.

And there you have it, a knock off PB Pionsettia Pillow for very inexpensive. Hope you all have a great sunny day.

Small table/bench legs add on.

Sorry about the name of this post it's a long one, but I wasn't sure what to call this little piece of furniture. So small table/bench fit the bill. Okay I LOVE chunky curvy legs-(for a table of course). I was at a local thrift store and saw this table I didn't need a side table and it's measurements were wierd but her legs were perfect. Legs are pretty expensive at Lowes and Home Depot like $15-20 a leg. So this table was a good deal for $10.

Let me re-show you the life of this piece of furniture, a little entertainement center from RC Willey-so sad looking!! I cut it in half.

To make a cute little bench for the end of my bed for storage too, You can never have enough storage people!!

After I unscrewed the bolts and used a circular saw to cut the legs down to the right height I wanted. (see they were just too long for what I needed, the table or bench what ever would have not been porportional for that size of table.)

Here is the little honey now she is lovin' her new set of legs!! They just add a little more character to a rather regular table/bench thing...

Large wall clock re-do

Redo of a large wall clock.

I made this clock about five years ago at a church activity, and didn't really use it a whole lot. The circle was cut out of ply wood and then a plaster was put on top for tecture-(I dind't cut it out or add the plaster it was already done for me). I used a brown glaze then added the vynal numbers.
I wanted it to look older and more well, white or cream. I covered the whole thing with cream paint.
I drwew the lines on using a yard stick and a large bowl. I could still see the vynal numbers so I sanded just the numbers and then sanded to whole clock with 60 grit paper distressing it.

I used push pins for the silver dots under the numbers and added my clock hands and walla! a new cream distressed clock.

Hanging pictures

I have had a ton of questions about how I hang my pictures. So here is the info.
My favorite things to use are these COMMAND STRIPS. I took some pictures to show you. These are for posters but there are other more heavy duty ones for pictures. Just buy the right size strips for the picture you are hanging.

You have got to get some of these you will never put another hole in your wall for a picture! They are awesome!

There are two strips that go together, and they both have little arm things that grab onto each other when you push them together you can hear them clicking and grabbing ahold-if you will. If you get your picture up and its not straight pull it off and try again. I have taken my pictures off tons and they are still going strong. I have removed some of the strips and if you pull them off liek the directions say at an angle they come off clean as a whistle.

This is in my sons room and there are 5 frames I didn't want 5 holes so I used the command strips.

I swear my pictures are evenly space, this is a wierd angle.

The other way I have used which is different is using a picture rod. I got this rod at a store called ROD WORKS, they are only located in Utah, Las Vegas NV and Gilbert Arizona so if you live by those your in luck. Here is an example.

Vintage button bracelet

So I have loved buttons since I was a little girl. My mom would go to craft stores and they had huge bins of millions of buttons and I would sit there and dig through them, oh my childhood memories.. anyway I was at my moms and came across some very old buttons and wantwed to make something with them. So here is what I came up with.

I made one cream and a brownish grey one I LOVE them, I wear one everyday.

Table tutorial

Okay here it is my DIY table tutorial. If you have any questions please leave a comment and I will get to you asap. If you buid this table please send me pictures I would LOVE to see what you build.

        ****I missed a few boards on this list below:****
               (Front): 2 (2x6's) 47" long
               (Back): 1 (2x6) 47" long

I layed it all out and ended up cutting off the legs they were too long so i cut them down to 32 inches(as listed)You can tweek your table to any measurement you would like.

I used glue and screws to put this together, nore secure if you use both, you don't need a ton of glue just a beed down each board, screw it together and let dry.

Here is a good pic of the whole table and what it should look like durring the process.

This is it all assembled so you can see just how it is put together

This is so you can see the top slats, I used 2.5 inch nails to screw into the base.

I am not sure how much this table would have cost because I already had the wood, but it would be easy to price out at Lowes or Home Depot. Just take the cut list and go to the store and see how many of each board you need (just pick out the straightest ones)They will also cut the wood for you to the legnths needed. I have had better luck at Lowes they never charge me unless I have a ton of wood to cut.

If I had to guess I would say this would cost under $100.

(pretty good deal since you can't buy a good sofa table for under that.)

I get my Walnut gel stain at Sherwin Williams its around $17.00 for a quart

Don't be timid when applying this gel, I just dump a blop on the table and start spreding until in is the color I want.

I use foam brushes to apply my gel stain (you can get a bag of about 8 at the $ store just make sure you throw them away outside and not in a closed container or by heat)

My boys bathroom wall

Okay I have been slowly trying to figure out how and what I wanted to do with my boys bathroom for the last year I think I ahve finally decided on the colors of dark grey, brown and cream. I need to find a stripe fabric to make a shower curtain so when I do I will post it. But this is it for now. The bathroom is not very big so not much room for decorating, but here it is so far.

I saw these cute twig stars in PB magazine last year and loved them so I made my own, with yep, you guessed it, sticks and a hot glue gun. really easy.

I couldn't find frames in a greay color that I liked os I bought some at Michaels and spray painted them and added some burlap for the background of the pictures.

my new "hand crafted" sofa table

Hello everyone. Happy Halloween to you all! I want to share a sofa table I made a few weeks ago. Remember me telling you that we recently built a shop and there was wood left over-(a dream come true). Well I was lookiing in a PB magazine and saw this chunky sofa table and loved it but not the price so I made my own. Excuse that there is no hardware on the "drawers" (my faux drawers) yet but I haven't found any I really like yet.
here it is all finnished.

I used 2- 2x4s for the legs and 2-2x6s for the front sides,drawers and top.

After a LOT of sanding with the belt sander I used a hand sander to make it smooth, the stained it with my favorite Minwax Walnut stain and then with Minwax Finnishing wax for protection.

I did not fill in the screw holes I likes how they made it fell more old and rustic, gives it some character. And the fact that I distressed it by beating the table with a hammer and some screws imprints makes the exposed screw heads look awesome.

I used some L brackets to ensure sturdyness-(is that a word) It was pretty secure already but you cant be to safe. This thing is chunky and a bit heavy. My hubby said as we were moving it down stairs-

"now this table is going to stay down her for a while right??"
please! like I ever move things around!! ha ha ha

so there she is and she is so happy in our basement. I am so excited to decorate her for christmas YES people I said Christmas!! I said BOO and Christmas in the same post!

In memory of Natalie..

A good friend of mine (Natalie) unexpectedly passed away on October 16th. She was a wonderful person and a great example. She left me with a want to be better at everything. She spent her time serving others. I will miss her deeply. She was my best follower on my blogs and I will miss her sweet comments she was so funny and very supportive. She was my paint and distress buddy, she loved making her three boys lives beautiful by crafting and doing fun activities.
Her sweet husband said to his mother in law while picking out her casket "maybe Lindsay would come paint it white and distress it, Nat would have like that". Nat, I love ya girl and will miss you SO much. we will take care of your little family and try to carry on your great legacy.

Halloween Banner

Okay so i was at my sister-in-laws house and she had this super cute halloween banner she bought some where (I'll have to ask her). Loved it so I made it, I am sure it is not as cute as hers but it's good for me. Like how it turned out. I might make one for every holiday..

I need to get some black spiders to glue on. You cant tell from the pictures but the letters are black glitter... This was really easy to make.. and cheap too.

Chest of Crawers Re-refinnish

This started out red, then I painted it black for my sons room, (that he is not in yet), and then painted it cream. It looks so much better, added new hardware.

Our new DIY train table

So I have wanted to get one of these tables for my boys for well since I had my first little boy. I couldn't ever find one I really liked for a good deal. We recently had a shop built and to my wonderful delight, there was wood left over, lots of scrap wood. I wipped up a train table for practically nothing, it is really simple but my boys played on it for 2 hoursthe first day it was up. They wouldn't even let me paint it. so here are the steps it took to build.
There is no right way to do this I didn't really even draw it out before, which I usually do.
I didn't want to buy any 4x4 posts so I used 2x4's for the legs. just tall eough for the kids to reach.
then I used 1x6's for the sides, just screwed them to the legs with a 1.5 inch lip on the top.
then I had a sheet of beadboard that I used upside down for the table top and screwed it to the top of the legs and put a brace down the middle for support. Then I stained it with Minwax Walnut gel stain and hand painted what the kids wanted on the top. Dirt, grass, gravel, sand and a road for their cars. That is it, I will be putting a protective covering but the kids said I could do it later.. Thanks boys your so supportive.

You could build this too, it is not as hard as you think, trial and error. I built this in my basement and it won't fit through my door so if I want to move it to another room I will have to take it apart. Duh! oh well I am not planning on moving it any time soon.

Fall Decor

I broke down today and decorated for Fall. Yes It's true and I couldn't deny it any longer, since the leaves are now changing colors outside. Winter will be here soon so I better decorate to keep me sane. Here is my mantel. I made the shutters from 97 cent wood from Lowes. The tin signs are from a thrift store they were so ugly had some horrific picture on them so I painted checkers on them and heavly distressed them. I went outside and got some wheat and tied twine arount them. I love pinecones and use them in decorating from fall all thought the winter. Painted some fake pumpkins white and there you have it.

You can make art out of anything, like leaves with burlap in a frame. Simple andt cute for the season. Apples are also cute this time of year, we even have a apple tree near by.

Today me and my son went out and cut sticks, lots of sticks. I think I got these fake acorns at Walmart last year for like 3$.

chippy magazine holder

I got this at DI, a thrift store for $4. I've been looking for one for some time and was delighted to come across this one the other day. I have tons of magazines I use for ideas and needed a place to store them. Here is the before.

and the after.....Look at the chippy goodness!!!
I learned to use Vasaline to make your paint job look old and chippy from Sausha at {show&tell} check out her blog she is SUPER talented. She just did these beams, oh my they are wonderful... okay back to the vasaline there are so many great uses for vasaline but this has to be the best.
All you do is rub with your finger or a q-tip vasaline where you want the chipping to be. There is not a wrong way to do this, really. The paint, I used spray paint Heirloom white and sprayed the whole thing, let dry for an hour and then took an old towel and wiped the whole thing down, the parts with Vasaline wiped away revealing the underneath making it look old and worn. What do you think? I love it, can't wait to try it on furniture.

metal AMMO Box redo

I love to use anything for decorating, yes even ammo boxes. I got my hubby some ammo for fathers day and they came in these metal boxes. The wheels started turning and I thought they would be cute in my sons room. Out came the spray paint and tada. Cute ammo storage boxes.

I taped on some diamond shapes and spray painted the box Heirloom White, removed the paper and sanded it down to make it look old.

After

Don't you just love the glass knob on this old sewing table, I got it a Hobby Lobby they have the cutest furniture hardware and they go on sale all the time.

little bench refinnish

My sister-in-law bought a house and this little bench was outside on the front porch in the elements (for who know how long? a long time from the looks of the poor thing). Any way she asked me if I wanted it, heck yeah I do!! She tought I shold replace the seat, but I liked the character of the large crack and the way it bends up to fit the little bums that will be sitting on it, so it stayed.

BeforeThis thing neededsome work and fast! I was going to paint it white after a bit of sanding but chose to stain it dark.

I used a belt sander to strip it down to the bare wood the detail on the back piece was a pain. Stained it with MINWAX Walnut gel stain, and MINWAX Finnishing Wax for protection.

I used a hammer and some screws to dent up the whole bench, to give it a worn old look, it turned out nicely. Here it is all finnished I am glad I stained it and not painted it white.

After

I love how it turned out, it was worth all the work. The seat has a little storage in it too. My boys love it! Thanks for stopping by, come again.

wreath week continued!

Here is a wreath made out of real leaves from the yard, I hot glued them right to a wreath form then they dried.

I'm sure most of you have seen these wreaths made out of book pages. It was a simple process buta little time consuming in my opinion. You just roll the pages really anyway and glue to a wreath form. I love it looks on a dark brown door.

when you rip the pages out the edges look like this, mine had some large page numbers that add some character to the wreath. i found a ton of cute wreaths on pinterest this week that i want to make. I will control my self with the wreath making.

A bug party!

Until my computer is up and running I will post my some pics of my sons birthday party. Thank goodness I had these pics on my moms computer. My son doesn't really like cake that much so we did cup cakes. Dirt and worm cakes we called them. I asked him what the names should be for all the things we made, it was fun for him to come up with them.

My 7 year old son LOVES, bugs critters or anything that creeps or crawls. So for his 7th birthday party we did BUGS! bugs were everywhere!We put plastic bugs from the dollar store in jars with lables.

He loves to catch dragon flies. He tell me it takes them something like 7 years to become a dragon fly from a larva. Not sure but I've heard that before.

Blue and green Jello gigglers with yes, more bugs in it.

And of course you have got to have BUG SPRAY (silly string)! They had a silly string fight that lasted a few minutes because they had to shake the cans before spraying it was so funny!

digging for bug, bugs and more bugs. This was so much fun there was some quarters in the sand too for the kids, they got to keep their bugs they found, so they were digging like mad!

Ooooooooooooo a bug and insect book, the kids sat there for like 5 minutes looking at this book it was so cute.

Each boy got to take home a "pocket full of WORM wishes"

It was full of gummy worms, frogs and spiders.

The poor boys was exhausted after all the kids had gone, that means he had a good time!

3$ fall flower wreath

All it took was two bunches of flowers and a wreath form from the $ store. Removed the flowers from the stems and hot glued to the form then I added some grape vine sticks to it and your done. Easy peasy. this would be really cute in light pink and cream for a little girls room.

I think I am a wreathaholic-don't even argue... that is SO a word! This week is going to be wreath week here at country girl home. I made four wreaths this week. Why? Not sure, they-the ideas just came to me in the night (or from someone elses door). Each day I will feature a wreath I've made.

The first lets call it the "fabric rag wreath"

made out of muslin fabric and some lace strips.

Cut strips about 2 inches wide and about 10 inches long tie around wreath form from $ store and continue untill full. That is it, SUPER easy anyone can do it.

That is how you make a wreath for practically nothing.. love it!

Wood box

I had some wood from anther project and made a little box thing just to put "stuff" in.

After a week I painted it and added some handles.

Painted some numbers on jars, cut up some small logs to add height to the candles.

my moms high chair

This is my moms real wood high chair she ate in as a little girl. It had been painted several times and has been in her basement from years I snagged it and painted it one more time and it sits in my yard I love it and think of my mom when I walk by and see it. She also gave me these Mother Hens aren't they loverly??

I love these they grow all over the place. they are a happy little plant. :)

Desk Makeover Reveal

I already have a desk but just couldn't pass this one by. I saw it for super cheap and just couldn't help myself. I was going to paint it cream but my friends gave me a hard time for always painting things white or cream. They talked me into a sage green color that turned out nice. I didn't need another desk so I sold it to a cute girl who is going to be a teacher. I am glad it went to a good home. :)

I was going to replace the hardware but decided to keep with the original and am so glad, it looks nice together.

The whole thing was lightly distressed to all to the detail.

I didn't have to do anything to the top other than clean it. It was in really good condition. :)

Twin Bed Make Over

Now it is a chicken wire frame delight! Painted it cream and added the chicken wire and now use to close pin pictures up.

Barbie need some cover !!

Poor Barbie never has any clothing on! At my moms house the grand daughters dress and them undress Barbie a thousand times but some how she ends up naked! I've got three little boys and thought I would fix things. I saw this cute Idea on a blog. I used a sharpie permanent marker to draw some undies on the ladies. So me and my mom went to town on these girls and gave then some fine looking underwear.

This is our new addition to our home- The chicken coop, and we are now officially Chicken Farmers!!!!

We had some cabinets that my hubby scored from a job he did last year. Remember that I put some in my laundry room Well they came in handy again they fit perfectly into our new coop perfectly thanks goodness so we didn't have to make the nesting boxes from scratch. My cute parents even put insulation on the sides to help keep the chickens warm in the winter. It gets about 10-15 below here some winters.. brrr lets move on winter makes me depressed.

We put the back and top on after we moved the coop into place it is very heavy. Here they are getting their Red paint.

Oh the day of the chickens arrival-they have been staying at my parents house while their new home was being built. The kids were so excited!

These are the wonderful grandparents whole made this dream for my som a reality-they are the BEST! I mean the BEST grandparents ever. The project was a ton of work some money too. My parents and my boys. oh and Gizmo the dog..

This is Night and my two boys trying to catch him- he is very big and very fast, but very kind.

Our chickens names are:
Winger, Lily, Knight, Zippleback, and Bob the Builder(Bob for short) We have had so much fun watching these little birds they are really funny to watch and chase off our cats which is very funny. My kids are loving them they can hardly wait in the morning to go out to play with them. Soon they will be laying one egg each day.. so we will be cooking and baking a lot.

{Bookcase}
When we moved 6 1/2 years ago we brought this ugly bookcase (for some odd reason) and it has been down in a barn for about 5 years till I pulled it out and it was to DI or to my house for a makeover... as you can see I opted for the makeover. I love a good challenge. This a a cheep bookcase made out of Lamenant I had to replace one shelf and do a lot of painting.

Wonderful white clean and large shelving for all of my books.

I haven't decided but I think I might make some doors on the bottom. What do you think?

Added some moulding to the top and bottom that added a ton of detail.

I added some bead-board on the back and some 1x2s on the front of the shelves to make it thicker and sturdier-is that a word?? It's all done and holding some of my books and magazines, I just love storage! Don't you?

{Children's Rocking Chair}
My mother-in-law brought me this cute little children's rocking chair, it is pretty old and crummy looking. But it got a new paint job, heavy distressing and is feeling and looking better.

In all her painted distressed glory! mmmmmmmmmmmmm I just love a good paint job!

Small country table

Here it is just after building it. Here it is painted, but not stained or distressed.

Here it is all finnished, I got the knob at Lowes for 30 cents..

It is out side by my front door, a cute little addition to put things on. I will get a picture of it on my portch when I can (hopefully today).

Burlap Ruffle Wreath

I made it by cutting two strips of burlap one about 1.5 inches bigger than the other-no, I did not measure just started cutting. But if I had to guess I would say:
Large strip- 6 inches
Smaller was about 4.5 or 4 inches.
I did a loose stich by hand on the large strip and pulled until it ruffled. I hot glued it to a small wood dollar wreath. With the other strip I skiped the sewing step and just glued and ruffled as I went. I am all about skipping steps if they are not absolutly needed. I love the simplicity of this wreath, it was inexpensive and easy.

I got the idea for this wreath at catherinascreativecorner.blogspot.com and she got it from Jodi @mylifeoncedarstreet.blogspot.com. Check out both their blogs they are very creative. Here is my take on the ruffle wreath and can you believe that I used Burlap... I never use burlap for anything.. ha ha ha. That's a joke people.

Dollar store wire basket redo

Boy oh boy did I score on these two wire baskets! I was at our local $ store and came across thses hidious orange baskets for $1.25, the wheels in my little head started turnin' -spray paint can fix just about anything! Really!
So home they came I primed them got and then painted a worn siver color. I didn't want them looking too new and clean. Tada! Here they are in all their glory. Better eh?

Here it is filled with fruit, can you tell which of the fruit is real and which is not. Real (the bananas, see all the bruising) Apples and pears- not real. I am so glad I found these little wire baskets and the fst that both only cost me $2.50 make them even cuter.
Remember, when you find something that you love but don't love the color-spray paint it!

Chalk Board

My new little chalk board!

This Chalk board paint is $6.99 at Joanns but I used a 50% off coupon on it. boooyah! Cheapo!

I had some extra bead board from my kitchen black splash it is about a 9x10. Put three coats of the paint on and let it dry then glued (with wood glue) to the back of this frame. (Below) I wish I had a cute, more interesting frame but I have used all mine. I painted the frame an antique white.

tah da! it changes with every season. Sorry for the ugly writting I only had my kids sidewalk chalk. It's fat and chunky and hard to write with. But your get the general idea.

New beadboard backsplash in Kitchen

I really wanted to change the backsplash in my kitchen, but didn't have a huge budget to work with. This whole project cost me $35!. Whoot, whoot! Yep $35!

The beadborad was cut and bought at Lowes for $20. The MDF boards were $13 and the outlet extenders were $2. I glued the beadborad to the formica and then hot glued the base MDF to the beadboard and painted it white. What a difference! It brightenes my whole kitchen up.

Above-the new curtain rod was 3$. Don't laugh (okay, go ahead and laugh) the wood brackets were $3 at Lowes and the rod is a PVC pipe (my hubby is a plumber and it was free) I spray painted it with Brown camoflauge paint (flat) it looks just like a metal rod. he he he!

I wanted to show you how it lined up under the cabinets it as a tight fit but that is how I wanted it.

I was a bit nervous about the holes for the outlets as you can see they are not perfect or evn a little perfect, but it wont matter when the cover is on. I also had to put outlet extenders behind the outlets to make then come flush with the beasdboard. yes I got shocled four times... grrrr I was getting so mad. Putting the extenders on was the hardest part. I used my kids play dough on the 4 corners of the outlet and pushed the beadboard up to it to mark on back where to make the squares. Then drilled 4 holes in each corner to get a start and then uses a jig saw to cut the rest out.

Oh, I love it so much and love even more that it was only $35!

Entry Table #2 {Black Distressed} & Tutorial

I already showed you my entry table. Here is the other one I made.

Here is how you can make you own table. You can use your own measurments to make it fit your area.

Items you will need.
wood glue
nail gun
sander
knobs/hardware ( for your awesome fake drawers)
Top: 1"Thickness)x48"(legnth)x16"(deep)- I actually got a 8 foot board and cut it in half (for 2 table tops)
Legs: 2x2 nothing special just make sure they are straight ( I dug thru a ton of piles to get straight boards)
Front/back: 1x6 (cut to 42.5 long)
Sides: 1x6 (10 inches long)
Drawers: 1x4 (each drawer is 1 foot long)

Here is all the wood, cut and ready to go.

I started with the legs. I took one leg and used it to measure all around the underneath of the Top so there was a lip around the table top. The legs start in about 1.5 inches in from the sides. I glued the legs and sides on let them dry for about a half hour. (below)

I flipped the table over when dry and nailed them to the top. (below)

I glued and nailed the drawers in place about 1.5 inches on both sides and about 2 inches in between each drawer, let dry about 10 minutes. Nailed and glued to the rest of the table and let dry for about an hour(below)

That's it! It's all put together. I filled in any holes or cracks with painter putty. Now it is ready for paint.

I stained the top. I actually stained the whole table (I wanted the dark wood to show when I distressed it) not really needed. Then painted/dristressed the base. Drilled thru the drawers added handles/knobs and then your finnished with your table. Its really not too complicated you can make one I swear!

Easter Blocks

I had some wood blocks from left over projects, and NOT a lot of Easter decor so I put the two together and made these cute little easter blocks.

I painted them cream and then distressed the corners and then dis white stenciling on some of them. I used a cricket to cute different letters and modgpodge them on. Then tied a variety of ribbon/jute onto the ends and the middle blocks and thats it.

I added some shadow to darken the picture to show you the white stenciling.

Happy spring! The sun is actually out right now, I feel happier already!

I built my own entry table!

The other day I decide that my entry needed something... (I really just needed some thing else to decorate). So I drew up my own plan, nothing fancy just what was in my head. Then went to Lowes got the wood and home I went with a mission- make an entry table.

Here she is I am very happpy with how she turned out.

Handles are from Hobby Lobby, they were 50% off, all three were $4.50. Paint color is Valspar-Foxtrot. I distressed the whole thing, used gel stain-Walnut for the top.

As for the cute drawers- well they are't real drawers( wood nailed and glued to the other wood)..
I dont know how to do drawers yet. Who needs real pull out drawers anyway it get you the cute look with out them being real.

I am so excited it adds so much to my entry!

My first "Feature"! {Jute Easter Eggs}

Yes! My first "Feature" I am so excited not just because this girl is super talented, sweet and beautiful but she is also my sister in law. When I saw her latest craft I just had to share it with you. Aren't thse the cutest DIY easter craft?? the anwser is YES! & they are super easy. The tutorial for these darling eggs is on her blog. It is super easy to follow, I made some last night with my boys messy yes, but fun.

Easter Egg Tree

Go ahead and laugh because this could be the ugliest thing you have ever seen. Right? Yes, I agree but it will turn into something better. What you don't think Camo has easter written all over it? Come on!

Alright so all you have to do is get a cone-this is one I had layin around (love the red glitter)..
buy some cheep eggs (any color) mine were from Wlamart each pack was $1.98 I needed about 26 eggs. Hot glue them all over the cone. Spray paint and dry then grab some moss from the dollar store and shove it on the cracks no right way to do this just cover the cone and any cracks, thats it! It is really easy and inexpensive then out on a sute plate or platter and cover the base with more moss.

This is the tree after I spray painted it with Heirloom white, it's ready for the moss.

Arent these a cute simple easter decoration? My mother-in-law had these cut. We (me and my sister-in-laws) got to paint and decorate them. I wanted to show them because they would be easy to make.

Put together your own potted greenery

I got these pots last year at Tai Pan for $2 each. About time I did something with them yes? So I bought some greenery 50% off at Joanns each stem was $1.29. Foam and moss are from the dollar store.
I saw some just like these at Joanns for $9.99 each...
please! How about $7 for both.
whoot! whoot!

Into the pot, stick the foam in and then the greenery in.

Cover the foam with the moss and that is it!

Decorating my shelves

After making the cafe shelving I decided it was time to redecorate my other shelf. The great thing about shelving is that you can put as much or as little on them as you want. I prefer to layer my prettys..

I got this clock at Tai Pan a few years ago it was red-not for me, so white it went. I just love clocks. I want a shelf of only clocks hundred of them.. The ticking might make me crazy though...

I got some smaller ugly gold frames (did the same as the others from an earlier post) added some burlap and this key (from my hubbys grandma when she passed away) I love it and think of her when I see it.

I bought this letter "G" at Joanns for $1.50 using a 40% off coupon and painted it sage green and then modgepodged paper on it and hung with ribbon from Rod Works-(Il ove their ribbon!) simple but cute!

I made these decorative balls for super cheap! I bought some foam balls at the $ store and some "Ham Beans" (don't know why they are called that, they didn't smell like ham??? weird! But any white bean will do. They are super cheep, 79 cents for a bag at walmart. Then just hot glue your beans all over and tada your done.

Here they are all finnished. My son did the little one with the split peas(green one) good job for a little guy.

Knock off Ballard Cafe Shelves

I am very excited to show you my latest project!

I love the Ballard cafe shelves but for $49-$79 each I just had to make my own and I am glad that I did.

I made them both for about $15 each! YES! thats $30 for both!!!!
Here they are!!!!!

Here are the ones from Ballard.

You will need:

Primed MDF board( I chose 6 inch) and I cut them 2 feet long (to fit in the spot they were going)
Moulding ( I got 2 1/4)
Corbels or brackets (4 total) these were like $3 each)
white primer
white paint
nail gun and 2 inch nails
wood glue
Painters putty
saw to cut your board and moulding.
You can have your wood cut at Lowes/Home Depot, but I cut mine.

I glued the brackets to my board and then naild them and let dry

sidfe view- I put the brackets in about 2 inches from the edge of the board.

Then I cut the moulding (which took a few tries to get a perfect fit) then glued and nailed, and let dry

Then I filled in all the holes and inperfections with painters putty and you guessed it..... let it dry.

Then I primed and painted and hung up. Thats it's all done and for a lot cheaper than Ballards!

I just love my shelves.

They really are simple you can make some too!

Laundry room

This is my laundry room I haven't showed it yet because I just finnished cleaning and putting up the decorations, but here it is. I painted the ceiling white and this wall a light cream to brighten it up(there is no natural light in this room, bummer!)

The washer and the dryer area..

The hanging wall... this doesn't always look this clean but for right now it is looking oh so lovely and organized.

These baskets are a life saver! Even though the stuff inside is just thrown in, it is not all over the floor.
I LOVE baskets you can never have to many.

That is it, my laundry room, it is small but it does the job.
I'm going to adding some built-ins on the side of the cabinets to the right see that space doing nothing and holding nothing.
Well that is going to change soon... hint ...hint... hint...

From bad to better- picture frame..

I LOVE picture frames and pictures, so when I was at a dollar store the other day and saw this frame that was well ugly and a little to metallic gold/orange for my taste. But the thing had potential-nothing a little paint couldn't help. So after priming the and painting then of course destressing this is how it turned out.

I have spring fever so bad. While looking at many wonderful blogs the other day I saw these teracotta pots with plants in them from Jenni at House of White-check out her blog it is fantastic! She is SUPER talented. Anyway these are my versions of her pots.

They smell soooo good! The tall one is Lavender

O bought taracotta pots (pot $1.29 base .99) at Joanns and painted them white and distress with 60 grit paper. Planted the plants($3.49 at Lowes) and that's it :) inxpensive spring decor.

Kitchen table... (refinished)

I decided the other day (about 3 weeks ago) that I was going to redo my kitchen table. I love cream country tables but didn't want to buy a new one. So out came the trusty can of primer & paint (FOXTROT from Lowes-Vlaspar brand) I had previously had painted the wood top because my cute little boy got ahold of a black sharpie marker and went agro on my table. So I just painted the top black like the rest of the table and called it good (but with my ever changing mind) I decided again to redo it.. yes I know I am so special!!

I sanded the top down to the bare wood as shown in the picture, not the funnest to do but it had to be done and my buddy the belt sander made a huge difference!. mmmm the smell of wood and saw dust...I love it!

Isn't it SOOOOO much more me! I am truly "in love" with my new table & chairs!

A close up of the top... I just love the cream and the wood together.

I wish that I could tell you that this was very simple but I had some PROBLEMS along the way. The black was a pain to cover up, but the hardest part was the top. I love Minwax Gel Stain in Walnut. I only had a small can but thought I had enough for the top...WRONG!!! I ran out half way through... grrrrrrrrrr! I looked everywhere for the same color in the gel stain... as a few weeks passed I went to Lowes to see if they could order me some-yes I was told it could be ordered. WRONG again!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrr! A few days later Lowes called telling me they couldn't just order a can for one cusomer.. grrrrrrrr!

So I took the bull by the horns and called Minwax myself(what I should have done in the first place). they gave me a list of local stores that carry my beloved gel stain! hip hip hooray! so I ran (drove actually) down to Sherwin Williams and picked it up & finnished my table.
Sorry for the long story, but with the good comes the bad. My hubby is glad all this is over- we couldnt eat on our table for like 2 weeks, now we can!

Another book shelf redo

I have had this book shelf as long as I can remember since Jr High (I think). I still have to put the bead board on the back but the backing right now is fine just not CUTE like beadboard would be. I added the moulding and some under the counter lights on the top two shelfs. and tada! A lit bookshelf for the kids stuff! and a light for our pet froggy.

Here are a couple of signs I made today. The first is just a clock made from the back of some left over beadboard (yes I use everything, all my scraps). This piece was small maybe 1 foot by 1 foot. Painted it cream added the numbers, distressed with gritty sandpaper and then antiqued.

The secord sign or "flag" is something I saw on miss mustard seed. She made the cutest Jack Union Dresser. I didnt have a dresser hangin around-(dang it) But did have this 3 x 3 foot board in my garage. Yes, yes I know it is not our flag but it is a cool lookin one don't ya think. probably going in my sons room.

Projects in the works...My loves!

Okay it has be a week now since my last post. I really am woking on some new things..
I just can't decide which love of mine is my TRUE LOVE... there are so many to choose from. First there is the "nail gun" and the "belt sander" and the "saw" mmmmmm the saw... then my painting tools.. and lets not forget my never let me down-"sandpaper" & wood glue..my love is really shared between ALL of them. But some get more attention then others, but I LOVE THEM ALL!

My hubby asked what I wanted for valentines (so sweet).

I said nothing really!! (in my mind I was saying.....a trip to an antique shop and 50$ or a power tool or a can of paint or some moulding or big sheets of beadboard.... and the list went on and on...

then he breaks throught my day dreaming with....
"honey really what do you want? I bet you'd be happy with a can of paint wouldn't you???

YESI LOVE paint! and the $50 would be great too I thought!
Really I sit up at night thinking of projects to do.. never enough money to do them all but the dream is always there in my little brain waiting patiently, very patiently.

Yes, I am a weird girl...no diamonds for me..

Sunburst Mirror

I had some wood dowels from a Pier 1 place mat and took it apart and glued them to a $2 mirror (7 inch)from Michaels.

Here is a hutch that I got last summer at DI for $10. I had no idea what I was going to do with it, other than paint it WHITE..mmmmm white! What to put it on??? I didn't know either untill I got this dresser, that was the perfect legnth.

I had this little shelf that I think my husband or one of his brothers made in highschool wood shop class. I don't know how it ended up in my hand but it did. it was oak color, that I painted and then I added the beadboardwhich takes us to this picture but i still looked flimsy and cheep. So off to my BFF (Lowes) to get me some moulding for 10$, I didn't want to spend a whole lot on it because it is just for the kids to put books in.

Looking through Pottery Barns catalog I lovedall the cork boards. So I made on for WAY less than they are selling them for. Yes under $3 that is sooooo inexpensive. I think I'll make a bigger one. I know my little guy is going to need more room for his artwork. Maybe I will just cover a whole wall in cork... not really but he would think that is a great idea. (I don't think I'll mention that to him.)

I started with a frame I already had, painted it black to match my sons room.

I bought this cork roll at Joanns reg. $3.99 but go for 40% off. thats cheap!

Then I rolled the cork out and hot glued it to the cardboard, then in the fram it went.

My son think this is great, he proudly displays his "FISH" art work. and butterflys. he loves bugs! too much.

I made this wreath for only $2! I got the white berries at the dollar store for .50 and bought 4. then I already had the ferns. I just wove them together and wired it together to make it sturdy. Pretty simple. and look how big my picture is..... yipee! I just learned how to make them bigger :)

I have had this little patriotic tray that i have used once -i think?? It was just sitting in my kitchen taking up space so i thought i'd give it a new look. Thanks to my favorite spray paint pictured below. "Heirloom White" it's a creamy white that i just cant get enough of.. the other is a brown that is very flat like metal. I have spray painted curtain rods, hardware you name it.

Way back when I was single (almost 9 yrs ago)I worked at Down East Clothing that was connected to Down East HOME. You could always find me sneeking over to the HOME section of the store to decorate with my buddy the home store manager(Amanda). We had so much fun setting up a display, taking it down again only to set up another. I loved it. So today that is what I did at my own home, with quite a bit less to work with.
Here is an example of a simple spring setting. that went down as fast as it went up, thanks to my two boys who love to "help mommy".

My kitchen is pretty dark, it wouldn't be so bad if I didn't get the DARK backsplash all the way to the cabinets, I totally want to rip it down and put up a lighter color backsplash. We have formika counter tops now but in the future want granite with a tile backsplash. oh well for now this is what it looks like. Yes the dishwashed is stainless steel and the other appliances are white, that is because we started with white and are SLOWLY changing over to the Stainless. We were "lucky" enough to have our dishwasher AND our washer tank out on us this month..Not really, it was a big bummer having to spend so much money in one month but, when it rains it pours right?

I made this little wreath, I got the berrys at the dollar store in town. wound them around a pot to make a circle and then pulled at it till it looked pretty, tied with burlap(my BFF).

My house needed a little color and I found some things that will do the trick, for now anyway I haven't been shopping anywhere all week. I din't even go to DI, Home Dept or Lowes... I Dont know if I am going to make it...The only thing keeping me going is KSL.com and Craigs List.. it's like online shopping/browsing right?..

I got some clearance fabric at Joanns and made some new pillows I got 5 yards of fabric for 5$. already had the pillow insides.

{The little gravy dish is just something I had and stick some greenery in it with burlap tied around.}

{I made my own topiary--is that how you spell it? out of a wood place mat(thus the sticks) and another greenery ball.}
