my new "hand crafted" sofa table

BOO!
Hello everyone. Happy Halloween to you all! I want to share a sofa table I made a few weeks ago. Remember me telling you that we recently built a shop and there was wood left over-(a dream come true). Well I was looking in a PB magazine and saw this chunky sofa table and loved it but not the price so I made my own. Excuse that there is no hardware on the "drawers" (my faux drawers) yet but I haven't found any I really like yet.
here it is all finished.
 I used 2- 2x4s for the legs and 2-2x6s for the front sides,drawers and top.

 After a LOT of sanding with the belt sander I used a hand sander to make it smooth, the stained it with my favorite Minwax Walnut stain and then with Minwax Finnishing wax for protection.
 I did not fill in the screw holes I likes how they made it fell more old and rustic, gives it some character. And the fact that I distressed it by beating the table with a hammer and some screws imprints makes the exposed screw heads look awesome.
I used some L brackets to ensure sturdiness-(is that a word) It was pretty secure already but you cant be to safe. This thing is chunky and a bit heavy. My hubby said as we were moving it down stairs-

"now this table is going to stay down her for a while right??"
please! like I ever move things around!! ha ha ha

so there she is and she is so happy in our basement. I am so excited to decorate her for Christmas YES people I said Christmas!! I said BOO and Christmas in the same post!

    the measurements are:
    legs legnth-31 1/2inches
    table top legnth-58 inches
    table top width-27 1/2 inches
    table width-26 1/2 inches
    table width- 57 inches
    I will try to draw up a sketch of this and put the measurments on it for you this week.

    Something like this would be awesome as a kitchen island. Don't be afraid to just try building something like this it really was not that hard, and I m not a mighty builder. Let me know how things turn out..

      Did you ever draw up a sketch of the table? (ex: what measurements the pcs are)I might can figure it out by the above dimensions but I might also completely screw it up!
      I am forcing my husband to make this for me, I just bought the rod from Rod Iron Works :-)

      I saw that you put the measurements up for someone but I also had a few questions. Did you use any wood glue to secure the wood together plus nails? And did you really only use 2 2x4's and 2 2x6's to complete this whole project? It looks like it would need more wood than what you had layed out but I've been wrong before. This piece is beautiful and I am begging my husband to make this for me!

    The rod is from ROD WORKS In Utah. But beware you'll fall in love with all their stuff. I'm not sure if they have stores in other states.

    The pictures are hanging from a Rod From ROD WORKS the stores are located only in Utah, Las Vegas NV and Gilbert AZ. I will post this on my picture on pinteret too.

    Found Rod Works, but I am here on the east coast and they do not sell online. I know they are not a curtain rod, since they dip up and down so do you have any idea what they might have referenced them as? Thanks so much.     Pamela, Hey I think you are referring to the top of the table. I used 2x6's. five of them. but you can use whatever size you want.

    My husband and I are making this table over the holidays. We have just finished putting it together and are now ready to put the stain on. We both love the stain color you have used. We tried putting a little stain on a scrap that we had and we can’t seem to get it at all dark like yours. We have tried many different walnut stains (special walnut, dark walnut ...) Do you have any suggestions? I really like it to look rich and dark like yours. What are your tricks?

    Alisha-I used a foam brush to apply the stain it goes on way thicker than if you use a paint brush.

    Jenn-The color of my walls is VENTANNA from Pratt & Lambert.

    ktsgirl- I just layer the board next to each other.

    I absolutely love this table :) I was wondering if you could give me how many of each measurement that needs to be cut. For instance you have the table width is 58in. how many do I cut that length. Also I don't see a measurement for your drawers. Thanks so much I can't wait to make this :)

    Fabulous job! I have a hand me down dresser than has nicks and scratches on the top...been planning on sanding it but do you think the paint you used would cover those? Or am I stuck having to sand?

    I can feel the fulfillment when you do something from scratch! It can take some time in doing it but the achievement you can get at the end is priceless! Because you did it yourself, you have a feeling that you need to give it some extra care also

      Don't hang the frames by the ribbon. Use command strips or a nail and just tape the ribbon to the back of the frame.

    I just love the way you hung the photos from the metal rod. What size photos are they? I have a rod very similar to yours and could not get it to look just right. Love your page.
