Here are a few of my spooky Halloween decorations.

I love this picture of Dame Blackstone's School For Witches my mom got them from Etsy

skull books ends....SPOOKY!!

Ok so on to the books I made.   Here are a few of the ones I made for people at my moms work. I loved how the bat one turned out.

What you need:

thrifted books
Modge Podge or I just made my own out of Elmer's glue and water in a jar. (from pinterest.com)
Plastic toys from the dollar store
paper towles,
foam brushes or paint brush
hot glue and gun
black spray paint
gold or bronze craft paint

First get the book and a paper towel rip or cut the towel to fit your book leaving some extra to make some texture on your book. Spray the paper towel with water till all damp ring out carefully. Put a layer of Modge Podge on book and lay paper towel on top of Modge Podge push and wrinkle till you like it then I put a layer of Modge Podge on top. Let dry fully (you can use a hair dryer to speed things up.) I do all sides and stand up to dry.
When book is dry hot glue your plastic figures on. your letters ect. In this case I used bat wings and a skeleton. I also did some dots or lines on the binding of the book for detail. (I did the paper towel after...but I like it better before)

Paint the whole thing black with your spray paint
then after it is all black you can add your gold or bronze paint I used a foam brush and just went over the parts that stuck out or were raised up.

I made this bat book with just hot glue and plastic bats from rings I drew a tree on the book then used hot glue to draw over it then added the word and the bats. Spray painted the book black and then added some bronze paint to the details. I also used a pasta sauce jar and hot glued a scorpion on and painted it black and added some gold paint to make it stand out.
I also made this spider wreath.. got the idea from Kelly at eclecticallyvintage.com

Do you have all your Halloween decorations up? I am not that excited about the cooler weather but decorating helps me get thru it :)
Thanks for coming!

  5. Lindsay you are one amazing and talented lady. You have always been so artistic and crafty I can remember when you used to write me notes in jr high and you would always make cute little designs all over the note. You are amazing. We need to get together sometime soon. Sarah

  6. Love how these turned out! Can you touch more on the making of the book titles? Specifically what is the piece that lays behind the letters? fabric or plastic? Are you letters metal or cardboard? Thanks for the help!

  7. Yes I'd LOVE to know more about the letters also! I am thinking my magic loving boy who loves to keep secret notebooks etc would LOVE a journal with the outside saying Magic Tricks or Spells done in this technique! Please share about the lettering!!!
