how to frame an old mirror
I had some 1x6's in my shop and cut them to fit on top of the mirror. So the mirror is large and I covered up about 5 1/2 inches on each side I could have used smaller wood but I wanted this thing "CHUNKY". This thing is heavy!!
I cut the boards to fit just like you would for a frame.
Then I painted my handy Vinegar steel wool mixture to the wood to age it.
I do like chalk paint and I am too cheep to buy it from Annie Slaon so i made some I got the recipe from Martha Stewart.
1 to 2 tlbs. Plaster of Paris or Non Sanded grout
mix with 2 tlbs water
1-2 cups of paint.
Mix together well store in tightly covered container.
Chalk paint is really easy to distress it comes off like chalky powder...imagine that!!
After painting my frame i use my handy hot glue gun to glue t right to the mirror, man this frame will never come off it is one there GOOD!! Lastly I used my handy 5 in 1 tool to scrape the paint off /distress it. I love how it turned out here it is on my table downstairs..
Thanks for stopping by have a good one!! Think spring, I know it will help :)

Thanks everyone! I think i might do this to some of my builder mirrors in my bathrooms.. it's amazing how framing your mirror adds.ReplyDelete
The mirror looks great with the chunky frame, and the little vignette around the table is pretty. I bought plaster of paris to try the homemade chalk paint, but haven't made it yet.ReplyDelete
Good luck with the chalk paint, some people love it and some don't.Delete
