Dresser

My parents gave me this "not so cute" dresser. It had good bones and it was free. I've been wanting to use some chalk paint I made myself  (I got from pinterest) I didn't want my first chalk paint trial to be on anything nice so this was the perfect piece. I used regular paint I already had and then added 2-3 TLBS white tile grout, mixed well and applied to the dresser.

No priming and no sanding needed. I used a samll roller and went to town. Chalk paint covered better than regular paint and was easy to use. It did however have some grit from the grout. I was a bit nervous about the little specks but noticed that they could be sanded off.
Here is the grout I used.

As you can see the bottom is missing, where do these thing run off to? I just got a board and attached to the bottom, so much better..
I wanted to show you these next three picturess to show you the little grout specks. I used a 180 grit sandpaper and lightly, I mean really lightly sanded the whole thing down the specks came right off. Then I distressed all of it . Distressing  adds so much doesn't it?

I don't want to spend a ton on hardware. I got these wood knobs from my local ACE for free, stained them Walnut..They look darling on this dresser in my sons room. I will have to get some long hardware for the bottom three drawers but just haven't found any I really like yet. Untill I do this is how it remains..

Happy day to you :)

  1. Your dresser looks so good!!! I didn't know that you could make your own chalk paint--I'm excited to give it a try! I have a shelf that I'd like to paint, but I don't want to put a whole lot of effort into it. This sounds like it's an easier solution, thanks for the tip!

    1. Janet,
Yes Chalk paint is cool try it out, it dried really fast so no wait time. Just remember to finnish with some sort of poly or a wax. I used Minwax finnishing paste wax.

  2. Looks awesome! Did you distress it just by hand or do you using a sanding block? I can never get the lines throughout/consistent....especially on those tiny corners.

  3. I found your website through a google search - I'm planning to transform my ugly old country kitchen table, and yours was exactly the same {but after your refinishing it looks a million times better!} Started browsing and found I have this exact dresser also :) Thanks for the many great ideas. Beautiful blog!

  5. I just found your blog and I am in love! So you just added 2 to 3 tablespoons of white tile grout to just regular white paint and then added a coat of the Minwax finishing paste wax once the paint had dried? I have a dresser almost identical to this that has been sitting in my barn for years now. I have always wanted to redo something, but have always been too scared....:)
