Halloween costumes & family party 2014

Happy Halloween everyone!
We had our 4th Annual Halloween party last week. It was so much fun. We always love seeing what costumes everyone comes up with.

My family
Me: Sleeping Beauty
Husband: Knight
Neal: Will Treaty from the book Series The Rangers Apprentice (cape made by my mom, quiver made by me)
Paul: BYU football player
Jake: Knight
Whitney: Fairy Princess
I made my husbands Knight tunic costume.
My mom made the cape and the chain mail head thing.
My parents in their ROYAL costumes made by my AWESOME mother! She made everything!! Even the rad capes!!

Cute Halloween cup cakes made by my sisiter-in-law Laura
Grandkids messing around with grandpa
The whole family for a group picture. Even the dogs had costumes on.

Me and my sister Angie....I mean Dorothy.
Her daughter was the Wicked Witch of the West and her son was the Scarecrow.

We had all the kids go hunting for their treat bags. Whitney was so excited when she found hers. Yes she had crocks on.....a fairy princess with huge crocks!! I am not complaining.... it just looks funny. My husband got her ready :)
Sleeping Beauty Costume
I had this grand idea of being Sleeping Beauty and was all excited until my mom told me we better get a pattern! I do not use real patterns! :/ Good thing my mother is a PRO SEAMSTRESS!! Really she has some mad sewing skills! As you saw by the King and Queen costumes she made (pictured above)
There are four separate pieces for this dress.
the main light blue dress
the should part
the hip part
and the dark blue corset
I made the crown and necklace by drawing then on a piece of white foam-ish stuff from Joann's.
I cut out my crown shape and necklace shape then spray panted them gold. Then I added some wet modge podged lace around the crown for some detail then glittered them both. Let dry.

I love how it turned out! My little niece was so cute when she saw me she said "WOW! You look beeeeeeautiful!" and followed me around for the next ten minutes.
Every girl want to dress up like a princess sometimes.
We got this pattern for $1 and made making the white pieces much easier to make.
I hot glued the gold trim to my shoulder and hip part! Go me!

This is the pattern we used for my dress. It was regularly $17.99. We only buy patterns that are on sale and we got this one for $1!!!!!
We used the bottom right pattern. I can use the dress for another year for a medieval costume.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Boots and Shoes for Fall

I have never owned a pair of ankle boots till last month. I think that they are going to some of my favorite footwear. I bought these at Shoe Carnival last month and have worn them several times. They are very comfortable and go with everything!!

forever21 lace raglan top (last year)
I wear them with a small messy cuff on my jeans

 SPERRY'S
I have wanted some Sperry's for about 2 years and just bought some and I love them!! They are so comfortable. I wear them all the time with my skinny jeans. In the mornings it is chilly but by afternoon it is warm so I just roll up my jeans.
My Sperry's look good with some jeans cuffs don't you think?

Maxi to Midi Skirt Refashion

I bought this skirt last year at Vanity for a good deal it was under $15. I got 2 white skirts and dyed this one grey. I love my white as a maxi but I have not worn this one very often. Until now!
I have been really wanting a white or grey pleated skirt but just couldn't pay $50-$60 for one skirt!! What? I know. That was the average price.
I am always searching my closet for clothes I don't wear and trying to make them well... more wearable ;)
If you are a thriftier this can work for so many long skirts. I have found many and didn't like their length. Now I just cut them off to my liking, hem and I have a brand new cute skirt.
I took this pink lace skirt I already had and used it for my pattern. It is the perfect length for me.
I lay my skirt on the floor making it even and flat.
To make the skirt bottom as even as possible I folded over my skirt and the used my Rotary Cutter and large ruler to make my line straight. Pictured below. I always leave a bit more than I really need just to make sure it is long enough. You can always cut more off.
Then hem your skirt and your done! I am so excited about this skirt!! I know I will be wearing it a lot more now.
Thanks for stopping by.

I've gone batty for Halloween!!

Ok major BAT overload! My sweet sister-in-law over at cherieamour blog cut me a whole bunch of Halloween stuff on her Silhouette and I have been going crazy with all of it! I have seen people do this on Pinterest and loved it but didn't want to cut out 50 bats. So when my sister in law told me she could cut them out for me I jumped on her offer. I taped them to my wall in my entry and over my fireplace. Super simple and super spooky!

 I am loving these whiches!!

I went outside and grabbed some branches and painted them black and put them in this container. I bought these birds at the dollar store and spray painted them a flat black.

 My Fireplace....more bats.
Happy Halloween to you all! Now I better get going on our costumes for Halloween. I will share them with you next week.

Bathroom board and batten wall with towell hooks

After nailing the slats to the wall I cover all the nail holes with spackle. Let dry and sand.

It took a coat of primer and two coats of paint to cover my dark paint. Let your paint dry and you done. It really brightens up this small bathroom.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you all are able to get out and enjoy the beautiful fall weather.
